Over on the Hasslein Books website, writer/editor/all around good guy Rich Handley has been pretty busy, but he took a couple of minutes yesterday to drop some damned dirty Apes news for anyone who might be interested.
Remember that Planet of the Apes anthology I mentioned a little while back? Well, all the contracts have been signed, so Rich was finally able to announce the book’s author roster. Check out this cast of characters:
Kevin J. Anderson
Nancy A. Collins (Really?? :: fanboy ::)
John Jackson Miller
and starring me as the Beaver.
HOLY. SHIT. PEOPLE.
This is insane. Look at the line-up assembled by Rich and co-editor Jim Beard. And then, there’s me. As you can plainly see, my attempts at bribery, extortion, and other forms of coercion continue to reap rewards.
As mentioned earlier, the stories in this new anthology will be able to draw from any of the mythology established in the five original Planet of the Apes films as well as the two subsequent television series. Tim Burton’s 2001 remake and the current “rebooted continuity” films are not included in these parameters.
What will I be writing? Well, glad you asked: I’ll be revisiting a corner of the Ape-o-verse for which I still have something of a soft spot: the 1974 live-action TV series. My story will take place some time after the events of the show’s final episode. What have astronauts Alan Virdon and Peter Burke and their chimpanzee friend, Galen, been up to since then? Hmmm……
Current plans call for manuscripts to be delivered by the end of February, with the anthology being published in “early 2017,” ahead of the release of the newest film, War for the Planet of the Apes. I’ll share more info as it becomes available. This is going to be fun.
