To the Batcave (podcast)!

Oh, that John Drew. He just can’t seem to have enough podcasts lying around.

In addition to the plethora of programming that serves to fill out The Chronic Rift Network, John’s gone ahead and added yet another show to the pile. For this latest venture, he’s set his sights on the classic 1960s Batman television series. That’s right, the one with Adam West as the Caped Crusader and Burt Ward as his trusty sidekick, Robin the Boy Wonder.

Despite its campy take on the Batman mythos, the show remains a cult favorite. I mean, who doesn’t love that Batmobile? New merchandise continues to be released at a steady pace. This year alone has seen a larger variety of products tying into the series since…well…forever, give or take a week or so. Rumors persist of an eventual DVD and/or Blu-ray release. The 1966 Batman film already has been available for several years, but rights disputes between 20th Century Fox (who produced and distributed the series) and Warner Bros. (who owns the various Batman trademarks) so far have prevented anything relating to the show itself. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel. Could it be the Bat Signal?

Meanwhile, geeks like you and me can still talk about it, right?

For this first outing, I join John as “guest co-host” for the series first story, which was presented as two half-hour episodes, “Hi Diddle Riddle” and “Smack in the Middle,” featuring Frank Gorshin as the Riddler. From John’s write-up:

“The Riddler has plans for Batman in the form of a lawsuit claiming false arrest, but Batman knows the Riddler is not as innocent as he seems. Can Batman deduce the Riddler’s scheme from the puzzles he’s hidden inside the lawsuit? Can he figure out that Robin isn’t Robin? And can we find all the ideas that would be repeated throughout the series that first led to its success and would ultimately lead to its downfall?”

The Batcave Podcast: Episode 1

Many thanks to John for inviting me to help him launch this new show! Much like Cyborgs: A Bionic Podcast, expect The Batcave Podcast to feature a rotation of guest co-hosts signing on to help John reminisce about future episodes. I’m slated to record another episode in the fall, but in the mean time some of the same guests from Cyborgs will be taking their turns in the Bat Spotlight.
