Tonight was the night! For the first time, I got to see one of my all-time favorite movies as it was meant to be seen, big and bad on the silver screen. That’s right, folks: Bruce and Brody in all their cinematic glory!

The new digital transfer is, in a word, SOME KINDA FREAKIN’ STUPENDOUS! This flick has never looked or sounded better. The town of “Amity” jumps right off the screen, and so does Mayor Vaughn’s Technicolor sport coat. The shark, delightfully rubbery, is still fake, but nobody who loves this movie cares about that, right?
I joined Kevin and some of his coworkers to catch the movie, and the best part of the whole affair was that two of our group were total “Jaws Virgins,” having never before seen the thing. One of these heretofore innocent lambs was sitting next to me, and I couldn’t stop laughing every time she jumped at this or that. It required physical effort not to giggle or in any other way telegraph what I knew was coming, because I didn’t want to spoil anything for her. Also, I didn’t want to taint her reactions. As I told her after the movie, it might well be the most fun I’ve ever had watching that movie.
Next up? Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Monday night!

I saw Jaws on the big screen last weekend as well! Such an awesome and different experience to watching it on the TV! It’s great to hear everyone’s reactions and laughter – really makes the film.
Some movies translate well enough to the TV, but to me, “going to the movies” is still a fun activity and the preferred way to see a really well-made film. For me, audience reaction to what’s on the screen is a key component, whether that’s laughters, groans of horror (or even disgust
), applause, whatever.
This is awesome. Jaws is the only movie from my youth that my son said actually scared him. This is also the kid who rolled his eyes and yawned through The Exorcist.
LOL. That’s hysterical.
