Starfest 2011 Schedule!

The good folks over at Starland have posted the complete schedule of events for this year’s Starfest 2011 convention in a PDF format. As expected, the entire weekend is jammed to the rafters with all sorts of stuff.

Kevin and I will be busy throughout the weekend. When we’re not manning our tables in the “Author’s Alley,” you’ll be able to find us at these particular events and panels:

Saturday:

9am – Main Events – Along with Starfest host Kevin Atkins, we’re offering an introduction for the 1951 The Day the Earth Stood Still, after which Kevin will screen the film as part of the weekend’s celebration of its 60th anniversary. A brief Q&A will follow. Kevin also has a technical retrospective and Q&A on the making of the film scheduled in Main Events for Sunday at 9:30am

1:30-2:30pm – SF Panel Room 2 – “The Dayton & Kevin Show.” From the con’s program guide:

Join writer guys Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore for a relaxed and fun discussion–yes, audience participation is welcomed–about sci-fi and pop culture in general. Topics might include their latest projects, Star Trek news from Pocket Books and Titan Publishing, inside scoop on Hallmark Keepsake Ornaments, and all sorts of cool stuff they’re enjoying at the bookstore, on TV or in theaters. It’s also quite possible that the attractive young lady wearing the Slave Leia outfit near the autograph lines will get a mention. Or six. But wait, there’s more! Perhaps there will be an all-new installment of “Bleeding Ear Theater,” with an overly dramatic reading by two writers with great faces for radio. Don’t miss what happens when Dayton and Kevin get an unsupervised* panel room for an entire hour–and next year, when someone asks why they’re not sitting in Authors’ Alley anymore, you’ll know WHY!

*Programming note: Starfest dress code will remain in effect despite any declarations of “No Pants Allowed” from panel members.

7:30-10pm – Main Events – Costume Contest. Kevin and I once again will join Starfest Big Boss Stephen Walker as judges for the contest. This has become one of our favorite things to do during the con.

Sunday:

10am-Noon – Atrium – Starfest Talent Show: As with the costume contest, this is another activity we sort of fell into a couple of years ago, and now it’s one of our weekend highlights. Kevin’s the host, and I’m a judge. Loads of morning laughs for the whole gang.

4pm-5pm – SF Panel Room 3 – “The Kevin & Dayton Show.” So totally not the same thing as “The Dayton & Kevin Show” from Saturday. I mean, look: Even the name’s different, and everything.

In addition to the “main con,” there are also three “cons within the con” taking place either in the main hotel or at an adjacent hotel: HorrorFest, ComicFest, and RoboFest, each with their own guests and tracks of programming. Come Sunday night, if you’re not exhausted in an utterly-fulfilling geeky kind of way, well…you just didn’t try hard enough.

If you’re planning to be at the convention, stop on by our table and/or panels to say “Howdy!” I’m bringing the Mrs. and the Wardlets this year, and I’m expecting that Addy will be my assistant at least some of the time. I think she’s just going in the hopes of getting her picture taken with Batman or R2-D2.

See you there!
